Every week, UnderPinned puts a spotlight on two freelancers whose work we believe deserves a special mention. If you’d like to apply to be one of our Freelancers of the Week and be on our Showcase, make a portfolio on our Virtual Office!

Harry Woodgate, Illustrator

Hi there! My name is Harry Woodgate and I’m a freelance illustrator and children’s author based in St Albans, UK, working with clients across editorial, publishing and advertising sectors. My illustration practice combines the rich textures of collage and print processes with digital imagery, resulting in innovative and eye-catching outcomes. I love making work which explores psychology, LGBT and queer identities, as well as climate activism and how we can protect our natural world.

My illustrations are quite people-focused. I like to draw different characters, often with exaggerated features or perspectives, as well as detailed crowd scenes and compositions. I studied BA Illustration at university, having wanted to be a children’s author and illustrator ever since I was in nursery school. Throughout school, I tried lots of other things, but illustration was what I always came back to.

Lucy Miller, Journalist

I’m Lucy, a freelance writer covering lifestyle from various angles for digital publications and commercial clients. My main interests work-wise include women’s health, travel, the arts and social issues.

Redundancy gave me the opportunity to embark on a much-longed-for freelance career, which has been a complete joy so far. I’ve since written for Grazia and Stylist, contracted as a digital content manager for a charity and taken on communications consultancy work for a Russell Group university. It’s been a varied year with no two projects the same, and that’s the way I like it!
