Freelancer of the Month - 7th November 2018

Hannah Bourn and Jessie Nixon

Hannah Bourn:

My name is Hannah Bourn, and I design jewellery.

Jewellery Design and Silversmithing for me is the most beautiful of art forms, incorporating traditional craft techniques with high-end design, in a wide variety of materials together with boundary pushing concepts and technical innovation. Studying at UAL Central St Martins has allowed me to develop new practical and design skills and immerse myself in the many different fields that are of interest to me. Combining the tactile element of creating a beautiful, sensory artefact from various raw materials with my current artistry gives me the opportunity to express my visual ideas in a more tangible form.

I have recently completed second year from University of the Arts London studying a BA Hons degree in Jewellery Design, and am now undertaking my placement year. Whilst at Central St Martins I am gaining a broad range of design and technical skills, but also the confidence to develop highly creative ideas and carry these through to production.

During my studies, I have worked with different companies where I successfully responded to specific briefs and live projects to produce final pieces ready to be commercialised, whilst still respecting the brand aesthetics. Having been awarded first prize in a live client brief with AZVA India, this has led to my designs being produced and showcased in India.

I also won first prize for Outstanding Workbook from the Worshipful Company of Tin Plate workers and Wire workers, London, so 2018 has been a very rewarding  year which I look  forward to continuing through my placements and on into my final year.

Jessie Nixon:

My name is Jessie Nixon, and I am a stand-up comedian.

I have been doing stand up for about a year now, and feel that I am progressing quickly. I was even described as a “breath of fresh air” in Stand up for Cider, 2018.

I try to cultivate a unique brand of erudite smut that I hope compels you to cheerfully question your place in the world. I’m really proud to have made it on to this years’ Funny Women ‘Ones to Watch’ list and the semi-finals of So You Think You’re Funny too.

My influences include Bridget Christie, Simon Amstel, and Mitchel and Webb.

You can catch me performing in and around the South West and in London, but I’m hoping to expand out soon.
